Time: 7-10 p.m.

    Audition Requirements

    Please prepare two contrasting monologues that are each 60-90 seconds in length. Your total audition should be no more than 3 minutes.

    Character Breakdowns

     

    Mainstage Show: Witch by Jen Silverman

    • Elizabeth Sawyer: Female. An outcast.
    • Scratch: Male. The devil.
    • Sir Arthur Banks: Male. A wealthy and powerful man.
    • Cuddy Banks: Male. Sir Arthur's son, painfully shy, a Morris dancer. He is secretly in love with Frank (and also in hate).
    • Frank Thorney: Male. A confident and successful young man, charming and ruthless. His ambition knows no bounds.
    • Winnifred: Female. Sir Arthur's servant, resigned and pragmatic, secretly married to Frank. 

    TheatreLab Staged Reading: Ripped by Rachel Bublitz

    • Lucy: female, 18, any race. Freshman at UC Berkeley.
    • Jared: male, 19 or 20, any race. Sophomore at UC Berkeley.
    • Bradley: male, 18 or 19, any race. Lucy’s high school boyfriend.
    • Narrator: Any race. 

    Homecoming Staged Reading: The Adventure of the Italian Nobleman by Bob Cooner, adapted from the short story by Agatha Christie

    • Announcer*: Any gender; any age; introduces and concludes the broadcast; friendly, welcoming, informative.
    • Hastings: Male; 40s-50s; British; upper class; former military officer; Poirot’s colleague and

      companion; admires Poirot but is also amused and frustrated by him at times; serves as our narrator for the proceedings.

    • Miss Rider*: Female; 30s-60s; British; working class; housekeeper to Dr. Hawker; loyal, excitable.

    • Dr. Hawker*: Male; 30s-70s; British; upper class; respectable, intelligent, curious.

    • Poirot: Male; 40s-50s; Belgian; upper class; one of the world’s foremost private detectives; egotistical, fastidious, secretive, brilliant.

    • Lift Attendant*: Male; 20s-30s; British; working class; operates the elevator in the building in which Count Foscatini resides; cheerful, cheeky.
    • Manager*:  Male; 30s-50s; British; middle class; manages the building in which Count Foscatini resides; fussy, egotistical.
    • Waitress*: Female; 20s-50s; British; working class; works as part of the kitchen staff at the building at which Count Foscatini resides; chatty, friendly.
    • O'Dowd*: Male; 30s-60s; Irish; middle class; the local police inspector for area of London in which Count Foscatini’s residence lies; gruff, self-assured.
    • Graves*: Male; 40s-50s; British; middle class; manservant to Count Foscatini; outwardly respectable, but inwardly a schemer and a scoundrel
    • Ascanio*: Male; 30s-50s; Italian; a wealthy and powerful gentleman; intelligent, professional.
     *Role may be doubled.

     

    Please note: Some DMTC shows may contain moments of moments of staged intimacy between opposite and same gendered characters, physical theatre including some stage combat, and may contain moments of racism, cultural or sexual violence and culturally charged narratives and language.
